Q: What happens when you shoot one arrow INSIDE another one...during a provincial championship??? Answer: You take a picture! And both arrows get scored the same, based on the location of the first one. It happened twice this past weekend. Good shooting folks! (The results from the championship are still unofficial but once they're verified we should have a host of medals coming to the Sault :) )

Look at all those Canadian flags! We are extra, extra proud of Algoma's own Lochlyn Good. The Lancaster shoot is an absolutely massive competition drawing archers from all over the world. After dedicating themselves in classes, these ladies were ready to shoot their first provincial competition on Sunday! Since travel can be dicey in the winter, the Ontario Indoor Championships is hosted at ranges across the province, as long as registered judge is on hand. The judges submit scores to Archery Ontario throughout the week, so these two should know how they placed in about 7 days. Regardless of the medal standings, I hope …

I thought I'd play with a pinkie trigger on the compound rig for a bit. It certainly forces me to focus on follow-through! Definitely can't slouch or get sloppy with back tension (engaging the musles of the upper back to brace and follow through properly). There's a bit of a learning curve and I don't think it will be my main choice but it's reinforcing some good habits.

Archers came together on a festive firing line this weekend. The annual Christmas Cheer Shoot, hosted by Arrows In Motion & The Algoma Rod & Gun Club, saw four full lines of archers. You know Robin Hood right? The guy famous for splitting an arrow by firing another one into the back of it? Today, we still call these destroyed arrows a robin hood. The two fused arrows are evidence of great focus, skill, strength and balance. They make a great trophy! Huge congrats to Team Canada and coach Lana Perry (a co-host here!) for their impressive efforts at the World Archery 3D Championships. Don't try this at home! Yes, the Swiss legend of William Tell sees the hero shooting an apple balanced on his son's head. That was different though: it was Tell's punishment for bold tyrannicide which inspired a revolution. Thankfully he was pretty good under pressure. Have you ever made your own bow? This one was handcrafted right here in Sault Ste. Marie by Scott at Kirkwood Traditional. I love the contrasting cocobolo and canarywood. The colour of the latter has become richer and richer over the years. What materials have you used in homemade bows?
