A simple reminder to change your blades. I hadn't swapped my saw blades in many years and did so this weekend. I forgot a circular saw could make such clean cuts 😮

What do you use to make long, straight cuts with a circular saw? You can buy track guides (or track saws...) but it seems expensive when a straight edge and clamps will do it. The problem is finding a long, straight edge.
I've seen this idea numerous times and have been thinking recently that I should finally go ahead and make it

Well, Bill commented in a post i had in home improvments, on my comment i am a novice handman, and if i had any wood related things, to post in here so, here we go!
I am in the process of removing carpet and installing solid hardwood flooring.
Learned a bit from when I did a living room about 15 plus years ago.
First and last few rows needed patience, as could not use nail gun.
In those days, i only had a circular saw and a hand …

Largest blank I’ve tried to turn at 11 1/2 in. Soon to be salad bowl set. Building some inventory for Arts At The Dock in July. Should be 3 or 4 wood turning artisans there offering a real diversity of work.

So I have had a couple of re-claimed oak cabinet doors with glass panels sitting around for a couple of years. I finally got around to using one in the corner cabinet build to hold some items in the hallway. I might just make a couple more of them.

Went down the rabbit hole this evening watching this guy's videos. This one's about "holdfasts" which are a simple, physics-based tool used to hold workpieces. Requires bench dog holes

I have been on hiatus for the past few weeks as I decided to get away from the snow and put my feet in the sands of Cuba.
I have always watched in fascination as Cuban woodworkers make due with limited tools and supplies to create projects you and I take for granted in their ease of construction.
I watched the construction of a large covered gazebo area (probably covered over 1000 square feet), that took the workers less than a week to …

This is the setup I use to make the segments that are joined to form rings for assembly into bowl turning blanks. Instructions for making one are online, search
“Wedgie sled”. The little ramp beside the blade is mandatory to prevent flying wedgies.

Our local Seniors Club 235 card group asked me to build this storage cabinet for them. Made of pre-finished birch veneer 3/4" plywood. Got to use my laser engraver to put the signage on the doors.

Floating shelf with dominos.
This was a first for me on many fronts. I just acquired a Festool domino and thought it would work well for a floating shelf. Also used a very high tech finishing product Clean Armor which completely cures in 2 minutes using a UV light. Truly magical and very impressed with the results.

Took the internet’s advice this week and rubbed some candle wax on our wooden kitchen cupboards. They slide much smoother now, and hopefully with much less sawdust!

Found the magic trick that removes stains (like rust and ink) from wood: oxalic acid, which is the main ingredient found in Bar Keepers Friend.
I can attest, I tried this and it works.

Found this video about linseed oil paint very interesting. This paint lets wood breathe, meaning it is able to dry out rather than trap moisture and cause rot. Definitely would like to try this out!

The amazing historic hope Linseed Oil Paint promises. Check it out.

I mentioned before how Roy Underhill and his show "The WoodWright's Shop" was pioneering in television public broadcasting shows for woodworkers. I got my tutelage for pure woodworking watching his show on PBS. You can now find them easily on YouTube, ...

To answer Bill's question - for christmas I got a self-levelling cross-line laser level 😊 will certainly come in very handy. Our house is over 100 years old so checking level/plumb is always especially important.

So I was one of several woodworkers (I suppose) who at one time or another owned a ShopSmith Mark V multi-component work station. Mine included a table saw, drill press, horizontal boring machine, lathe, band saw, jointer, and disc sander. They were well built with a very powerful motor and saved on quite a bit of shop space. But, it just seemed annoying to have to go through the motions of changing the configuration to get each facet available …
