My makita saw came with a rip guide that I should probably try one of these days, but it won't help cutting sheet material and requires a straight material edge to begin with

Hmmmm. Good idea. I've always just fudged it with clamps and whatever was laying around at the time, but this situation probably comes up enough that it's worth making something to keep on hand in the shop

@Mike Purvis Yeah for me it is always a whole ordeal. Find a straight edge and spend 15 minutes fiddling with its position to line up the blade with the cut, then clamp it down and cut. Feels like it would just be easier to spend 15 minutes making this instead
Wow, wish I knew that many years ago when I had some long cuts to do. Thanks for that tip, might come in handy soon as I will be cutting some plywood sheets.

Yeah seems like something that will pay off immediately. And if you've got enough storage space, storing an 4-8ft track isn't too bad. I suppose the nice thing about the guides you buy is that they fold down, though.
@Eric Moss
You got me using your 'logic' to look into 45 degree angle cuts, on a table saw, for 60 to 120 cuts. I like the 'jig' idea for consistency. Saw some differebt ideas on youtube.
Going to do a 'feature wall' piece, chevron pattern, and need near perfect cuts for where they meet in the middle. Still in drawing/planning stage, as need to tile hallway before i tackle this next project!

@Steve K Sorry didn't get notified of this comment. Yes I really should build more jigs for repeatable cuts but I find myself thinking it's too much effort and I'd rather just get the job done - until a few hours later I realize how useful it would have been.
I am hoping to build a mitre saw station with adjustable stop blocks so that I can do repeatable cuts a little easier in future. One day, when I finally get to that project, I'll share it
What do you use to make long, straight cuts with a circular saw? You can buy track guides (or track saws...) but it seems expensive when a straight edge and clamps will do it. The problem is finding a long, straight edge.
I've seen this idea numerous times and have been thinking recently that I should finally go ahead and make it
