The covering over the old Blockbuster sign on Trunk Road is starting to come undone. It’s funny how quickly the idea of spending 20 minutes picking out a flick has gone from being normal to weird. I remember going to that store repeatedly to rent my kid the same movies over and over again. 🤣

Today's pic from the archives - was noted as Queen St 1880. I haven't quite figured out the landmarks - but my guess is this is looking west down Queen, with the old PUC building now being somewhere in the middle on the left side. I think that bell/church looking tower would be the building now home to BDO. The East St turn with what we know as Muio's/Opa's on the left visible in the centre

My Dad started out his sales career at Hannah Electric in the 1950's. I have had people come up to me 50+ years later to say that the refrigerator that he sold them was still working! I found this picture years ago in the museum archives and love to look back at all the hustle and bustle on Queen Street. I have others to share if these interest anyone.

90 years ago today, on October 20th 1934, the Great Clergue Estate, a beautiful georgian mansion, burned to the ground starting around 7:30pm. Montfermier sat atop Moffley Hill, which is between Langdon Cres. and Clergue St., just south of Fort Creek. Clergue moved into the house Christmas 1902. The fire lasted a few hours and was said to have drawn 10,000 spectators. The attached story from the Sault Museum has more photos and details.
