Nice to see all the variety of posts being made by our group members. I have been a bit incognito, consumed by snow removal throughout my yard. Only yesterday did I get my deck cleaned and the drift on my eaves removed. Today I cleared the path to my workshop, which if number one on the list for a woodworker. I will be back with new posts soon, ... as long as the snow lets up! LOL

3rd epoxy coat on ottertail paddle. We use West System epoxy and the finest wood from local supplier Thayer Lumber. They pretty much have everything you need to build anything and are a gem in our community to woodworkers.

We were gifted a wood bowl a couple of years ago and I wondered “ how did they do that ?” Now I know. Great fun.

Bunk bed project: almost done. The bottom bunk is for my 3 y.o. grandson and will be raised as he gets older. I will be adding a shelf unit at the end, lights and curtains to make it a nice cozy nest.

Finally . . . got my final electrical inspection yesterday for basement bedroom and family room. Last outstanding FYI house building component of current project. Woodworking interest is in large scale FYI projects like houses and sheds.

Can I ask an expert? I have this rustic coffee table, unfinished as far as I can tell. How might I get rid of water rings and spots on it? And should I slap a coat of matte polyurethane on it, or something else? Keep in mind the texture of it is too rough for sanding.
I want to protect this table but maintain the rustic character.

Christmas Santa’s part three. Carved these about fifteen years ago from basswood. Very soft wood and forgiving but not a lot of grain so end up painting or staining final pieces.

Along the line of what Andre Riopel posted with the mobility chairs made from wood for kids, this is a snip from a video of my grandson riding his converted hoverboard to a go-cart. I copied the pattern from some YouTube videos, but I could convert one to a mobility chair as well.

I am planning on building some rough basement shelving this winter. 16in deep, spanning 12ft. Hefty storage shelving with 2x4 framing. Instead of using blocking between shelves to carry the weight down, is it an ok idea to notch out my 2x4 vertical posts so that I can rest my shelving in the notches? Anything to be aware of here?
2x4 with a notch area marked to be cut out.

I'm just reaching out to see if there are any others in SSM who are into Sloyd and Green Woodworking? I've been thinking about starting a spoon carving club that could get together monthly to carve spoons and work on other green woodworking projects.

Polyurethane gluing a paddle grip from blade offcuts. This is a rubber glove job. The wood is dampened lightly with water first. Once set, it is permanent. The paddle shafts are made long so that work can continue while length is decided. The shaft offcuts will later become new grips of their own.

Birdseye maple leaf inlay on kayak hatch cover. Bookmatching cedar strips is a simple process done by numbering each strip as it is cut and adds symmetry.

Adding a curved walnut accent to a black limba paddle grip. Steamed prior to clamping and gluing.
