To update you all — we ended up getting a London Plane—a type of sycamore that is more common in Southern Ontario. The landscaping company had 3 of them left over after installing a bunch on Bay Street, so we got a good price.
We were especially interested because these are already quite large—16 feet tall! Excited to get it planted in our backyard!

Looking for recommendations / thoughts:
We are planning some backyard changes and we'd like to plant a tree. We have a small-ish property downtown and we would like a tree native to the area that will grow tall, not wide. It will get sun about 3/4 of the day. Something that grows pretty quick is a plus 😊
We are generally excluding evergreens but I do really like white pines. Otherwise, we considered sugar maple and paper birch.

Deadline is approaching to get your plants in the ground before it freezes!
I planted this wee plum tree (that started as a clipping) and covered with leaf mulch from last year’s foliage over the weekend.

For those of you who plant garlic, now is the time. (six weeks before ground freeze).
Be sure to mulch well to protect them if you have squirrels or chipmunks. Squirrels love freshly dug soil and will scatter your bulbs all over.
