My reading today is the Hagakure by the once-obscure samurai Yamamoto Tsunetomo. I’m a student of street and melee fighting tactics. Most of the people I deal with are honourable. A small number, however, are dishonourable. Those who repeatedly use unethical tactics against me eventually learn that silence should never be mistaken for weakness. Today’s learning: “ There is something to be learned from a rainstorm. When meeting with a sudden shower, you try not to get wet and run quickly along the road. But doing such things as passing under the eaves of houses, you still get wet. When you are resolved from the beginning, you will not be perplexed, though you still get the same soaking.”
