I can relate to this. One of my favorite things to do is sitting down with a guitar and a drink. And I have found that my mood is directly connected to whether or not I end up playing. When I'm feeling all right I am more likely to play. And a nice drink just makes it more enjoyable.
However, lately I haven't been playing as much as I did just a little while ago. I haven't really unravelled it yet but I think maybe it comes down to a certain

You know, that's some pretty good, down to Earth and practical advice. Thanks Jim. I'm just gonna put on some Neil Young and strum along for an hour today

@Bill Maloney I had a player cancel on me to go do something frivolous and i put the guitar down and have not picked it up in a few months. You may be associating the two together only, beer goes with guitar only and guitar goes with beer only. The listening to music and getting curious about it and the direction as Jim said could help. Also mixing it up w other players may also inspire you again. Its a tough one.
Playing guitar has always been one of the best parts of my life, something I've spent countless hours enjoying. It's often been euphoric. But lately I don't seem to enjoy it like I used to, and it's because I'm not drinking these days. For me playing guitar always involved beer - it just opened me up and felt so real - the sounds I would make, the thunderous strums and turn arounds, the occasional lyric that was spot on.
But now I haven't drank in weeks and I barely even pick it up anymore, it just feels forced and uninspired. Does anyone have any advice on how to get into a groove without drinks?
