Good morning music fans and happy Friday. First off I would like to acknowledge Elvis Presley's recent birthday, he would have been 90 years old. Thank you, thank you very much.
Okay, here's some good news to share with all of those jazz fans in town. This young lady is taking the music industry by storm and she comes from a family with deep music roots. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Samara Joy. Here is her back story: Samara Joy, born Samara Joy McLendon on November 11, 1999, is an American jazz singer from the Bronx, New York. She comes from a musical family, with her grandparents being founders of the Philadelphia gospel group The Savettes. Joy's father, a vocalist and bass player, introduced her to gospel and soul music. Joy released her self-titled debut album in 2021, which earned her the title of Best New Artist by JazzTimes. Her second album, "Linger Awhile," reached number one on the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. At the 2023 Grammy Awards, she won Best Jazz Vocal Album and Best New Artist. Music critics put right up there with Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald. You can listen to her on your favorite music sharing platform.
Also there is an event coming to the Soo presented by Black Fly Jam as they present Aleksi Campagne New Discovery of the Year. Sunday Jan 26 from 2pm to 5:30 pm at The Loft 75 Huron St. Doors open at 2pm and the matinee starts at 3pm. Tickets are $40.00
So that's a wrap for today and have a rockin good weekend.
