Pens are an important part of my tool kit at SooToday, so I was immediately drawn to this photo posted by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau during his last day on the job yesterday. I notice both pens shown are not the fancy models you’d expect a prime minister to use for an historic signature. The one at the top left is a Uni-ball Vision Elite Rollerball: a brand I’ve often purchased and used. Priced well under $5, known for consistent, skip-free ink flow. I’m not sure about the pen in Trudeau’s hand, but it appears to be a retractable gel pen in the same price range. One thing’s certain, though: Trudeau’s writing instruments are a huge step forward from 2009, when I caught then-PM Stephen Harper using 15-cent Papermate Stick pens.
