THE HOME OF THE 19 CENT HAMBURGER...... Sandy's Drive-in was a mainstay go to place in the early 1970s for many teenagers, in the evenings as they cruised Queen. The design of the building was ultra modern and the 19 cent hamburger was very affordable as the price would suggest. Manager Saultite Frank Plastino, a well known and experienced chef locally made sure the experience at Sandy's was next no other and the best it could be. Armando Plastino Comments - Nice to see that article, Joe. I have fond memories of Sandy's as I worked there too during my high school years. It used to be "the place" to go and to hangout for teenagers especially on the weekends. I remember scenes where the lot was full for hours with people lining up to get their burgers. We were fast though with at times eight or ten of us working the front counter and the burgers being made in batches of

Frank Plastino Comments - Joseph, Sandys opened in 1967, the burgers then were 15 cents, then they went to 19 cents. We were capable of making 63 burgers every 3 minutes. It was a very busy place. I had 40 people working for me, I was 19 years old and some of the employees were older then me. We got coverage several times on the National News showing police directing traffic in and out of our parking lot. They were great unforgettable times. The
