Lets discuss Ice Climbing and the types of Ice Climbing. Feel free to ask questions. 1- Solo Climbing/ No rope, no safety ,just a climber on their own ascending the wall. 2- Top Roped Climbing- A- Sling Shot B Top Belay A- Sling Shot- The rope is tied to the climber at one end, then the rope goes to top of climb around and trough an anchor and back down to the belayer. As the climber ascends the ice wall, the belayer pulls in the slack using a BELAY Device. B- Top Belay- The belayer is at the top of the cliff, clipped into an anchor. They belay the climber up the wall to the anchor. 3- Lead Climbing- The Climber is tied to the rope and ascends the wall as the belayer at the bottom lets out the rope. The LEAD CLIMBER carries ice screws and place these depending on their confidence level. The lead climb clips a quick draw to the ice screw with a carabiner, then clips the rope to the other end of quick draw. If the climber falls ,they will fall the same distance below the ice screw as they are above. The Belayer at the bottom brakes the rope. Once the LEAD Climber gets to the upper part of ice wall and the anchor, they clip the anchor and bring up the belayer who removes the screws as they ascend and clip both the ice screw and quickdraw on a rack.
