I don't think I've seen anything that looks like the "jewels" photo before! What are they? A bar?

Yes, a bar. Its a rendition of what some people call "magic bars". I grew up calling them Jewels.

@Jodi M Oh yes! I actually do make these and call them Magic cookie bars ... I see you add cherries to yours hence the jewel. I think it's always neat to see variations of popular recipes :)
