It’s officially 10 days to opening night, and our new entrance is the stage door. We were on Easy Street as a cast tonight – when we arrived, it was obvious our fearless leaders and crew had been there all day preparing detailed set pieces, carefully selected props, and bright sparkling costumes. Did you know that below the theatre is a veritable wonderland of costumes in every colour, theme & era you can imagine? It is truly a sight to see, this collection of curated treasures by companies past and present. There are so many memories down in the costume bay.
“Annie” says you’re never fully dressed without a smile, but “White Christmas” says you’re blessed to be dressed by the best – Terri Miller! Taking on the costume management of a cast of 40+ is no small task & we’re lucky to have Terri up to the challenge – she is synonymous with community theatre in our city, both onstage and off. She’s devoted so much time in so many ways & to watch her navigate through thousands and thousands of costumes, accessories and props with ease is remarkable.
She is also so lovely and made me feel so comfortable – that basement can be a little intimidating after a few decades away but I was so pleased to see it’s not only been preserved with care, but added-to and much more inclusive. There were plenty of options and I didn’t have to worry about the slightly anxious memory I had from being 17 in “Music Man” and cringing at the seamstress shouting about having to “add more panels” to the horrid peach number they had for me. You’ve come a long way, costume bay!
Thanks to the generous help from the hairstyling program at Sault College we’re ready to create the fabulous 50’s styles, the outfits are perfectly vintage, and the surprises of our stage design will enchant you. Setting the scene is such an important part of this production and our crew has pulled out all the stops to completely transport you to Pine Tree, Vermont for a White Christmas you won’t soon forget – ALL ABOARD this Dec 4-7!
