If you’re interested in reading something aside from how much snow we’ve received in Sault Ste. Marie, I’m here to let you know we are 6 days away from tap dancing our way into your hearts with the Musical Comedy Guild’s offering of “White Christmas”! How fitting that our scheduled day of rest was a veritable SNOW day as we likely would have had a hard time trekking to the theatre tonight.
For some of the folks who dedicate themselves to these productions though, the work never stops and this could not be more true for the role of our maverick producer, Kim Smith-Bahry. To produce a show is an assignment of epic proportions, and a producer must dance as delicately as our talented leads to balance the creative side with the business side. Hopefully Kim will feel a sense of reward as she watches the final product come to life next week, one that equals the immense work she has put in for likely the past year or more.
The fiscal side of community theatre takes a certain finesse, sweet-talking advertisers and businesses to lend their support, managing the task of securing the rights to the material and making sure none of our actions jeopardize those copyrights, keeping an eye on everything from how much the tinsel for the parade float sets us back to how many hours we can afford in the theatre, and I fear, a few instances of having to tell the creative team “no” about a vision because it does not align with the budget.
Yes, that’s not an undertaking many could handle; let alone with the temperate sweetness Kim has shown. While we as a cast have not been privy to all the production meetings, Kim’s presence has been steadfast and has earned the respect of all of us in the White Christmas family. You won’t be disappointed if you grab a ticket or two and join us Dec 4-7 to enjoy this fabulous production we’re ready to present to a sold-out house!
