Here we are, 11 days til the curtain goes up on opening night of the Musical Comedy Guild’s “White Christmas”. This also marks our final rehearsal outside of the Sault Community Theatre Centre, where we’ll move in tomorrow - right on the heels of the West End Theatre Project’s tenancy staging the brilliant Charlie & The Chocolate Factory.
When we weren’t gathering at the MCG’s home-base in Steelton, secured by their tireless board of directors in the summer of ’23, we were lucky to use space at Elite Dance Force. Since we’re a cast of over 40 plus crew, it’s a crowd, so this allowed us the space to really move about, and the mirrors to see ourselves (and please can we go over that one part again where I keep turning right when I should be going left? Sorry!). A few Sundays & Tuesdays this fall, I got to bring my little tote bag, water and character shoes to a real life dance studio – "playing the part" of those elegant dancers I’ve always admired.
What a treat the dancing is in this show! Now that we’re closer to opening, the ensemble cast gets to see more of the numbers by our amazing leads, by the Elite teachers we’re so lucky to have in the cast (I cried during their tap number tonight), and soon we’ll get to see the special performances featuring some of the Elite dancers themselves! In the true spirit of community theatre, all of us are included in some of the dance endeavours and have had many a laugh while practicing & perfecting our moves – with such patient teachers.
I’ve loved observing all the partnerships and collective support for each other among the arts in our city, sharing expertise and spaces, attending each other’s shows, stopping by to paint set pieces & play music. How lucky are we to have the talent to offer this caliber of entertainment in our city? We hope you’ll join us December 4 – 7th!
