Have you listened to our podcast about local architect D. Perry Short?

D. Perry Short designed many prominent buildings in Sault Ste. Marie including the Algo Club, the YMCA, the Sault Community Theatre Centre - among many others. He was very passionate about the preservation of historic buildings in the Sault, which was evident through his work with LACAC.
Perry wrote several handwritten descriptions of buildings in Sault Ste. Marie that were eventually torn down. This one, written in 1993, covers the original Alex Muir School on Kohler Ave.

Transcription:

"Original Alex Muir School
This old school was similar to King Edward VII but had deteriorated very badly.
It was demolished in 1963 and replaced by the present structure.
The kindergarten portion, which had been built only a few years before was retained and connected to the new building.
The envelope contains some interior photos of the kindergarten and one negative of the demolition.
The demolition contractor after moving onto the site allowed the kids 15 minutes to throw stones at the building. Every pane of glass went!
D. Perry Short, April '93."
