Pat Mackan ·

Good morning music fans. So today I'm doing something different and introduce you to local musician Tym Morrison. I recently sat down with Tym and had a conversation about his music and how it all started.
Tym: When I first started my Dad tried to get me to play guitar and I kept pushing it away. One day my Dad was playing Secret Agent Man and I wanted to learn to play that song, pretty much after he showed me how to play the beginning riff I was hooked. I was getting all kinds of chord books and started to get involved in music that was influenced by friends and particular Ozzy Osborne and similar music from other artists.
When I started Music Theory, to tighten up my skills, I became friends with Mike Harris and that friendship became competitive, comparing music between us. I wasn’t doing a lot of singing, until I met Ted Cruz, and he told me to just starting singing and don’t worry if you can't hit the notes, just keep on doing it and you will get better and have more control in your life and your band if you are the singer and it will make things run more smoothly.
Tym started doing his own solo shows when he was living in Calgary and did a lot more singing which helped in the creation of different projects.
Pat :I asked him about what influenced him to do keep playing live shows?
Tym: I would have to say Rust McCarthy, and also his uncle Rick, who lives in London, Ontario, and played in a band called Splash. They are now elderly, but still playing, and Tym hopes to be still playing music when he gets older in life.
Pat: Do you have any dreams or aspirations to put out your own album or studio recording?
Tym: I do a lot of recording now in my home studio and recently got into music videos and using different online tools and other apps that help with making my own lyric videos.
He is also trying to get his own views out there, be it personal or political ideas through his music.
On a personal level, Tym says that as a Christian male, I do write songs that talk about Jesus, but in a positive light, and uses his music as a teaching tool. Tym says that there are a lot of different rock and heavy metal bands out there recording Christian music and he tries to use that genre in helping with the creation of different music projects.
Pat: So you have played different venues around town. So what do you like about the local music scene and what stands out for you. How do you see our local music scene evolving?
Tym: There a lot of different musicians in town and there are a lot of opportunities for musicians to get to play live. He says " there are new venues opening up such as Beck's, which he hopes to get a chance to play there." He enjoys playing at Misty's 50's and he has also played at The Dive. He likes to see people enjoying themselves. It brings me joy when I bring a new tune into my repertoire, such as Beth by Kiss. He mentioned "that one day these guys came to the bar to listen to me sing this song and it just made their day." It gives me more incentive to add more material and try to see what makes people happy.
Tym has a wide repertoire of contemporary songs that will please anyone at any age.
I thanked Tym for sharing a piece of himself and encouraged him to keep on doing what he's doing .

So until next time stay tuned, stay safe, and be kind.
