I wrote to Ross Romano and told him that if his government removed one foot of bike lanes in Ontario I would not be voting for him in the future. I hope every biker does the same. Be sure to include your full name and address . Not sure if I can post his email address so go to the government of Ontario site and look it up Dear moderator perhaps you can add it here”. “

SooToday had an interesting article yesterday concerning bike paths. Research shows that in the long run (pun intended), walking, cycling and public transit infrastructure will alleviate congestion. Initially car use will be heavier, so eventually residents look for alternatives. It is a "learned" response, not necessarily intuitive. (Look it up or click on this link:) …

Getting started… Looking at getting started with trail biking. Any insights on where to start and equipment, other then shopping around with DoW, Velorution, or Algoma Bicycle? Thanks.

As a cyclist I am very aware of a growing problem in this city that nobody wants to admit: distracted, impaired and speeding drivers, often all at the same time. Everyday you read about crashes mostly at intersections. Often pedestrians and cyclists are seriously injured or killed. If you put a dollar amount on the average crash it quickly adds up. Yet it would be so easy to solve the problem with photo radar. I’m not talking about the timid …

The ride out to Red Rock is amazing right now. The gravel section is freshly graded. Get out there before the snow flies!

A lot of cycling and other sports happen at Hiawatha. Here's my take on how we can continue to protect it.

The dirt is firming up, but the riding is still great at Hiawatha. Puddles that were water when I started had formed a thin layer of ice by the end of last night's ride 😭

I always liked the challenge or carrying stuff on my bike. This load crossing the international bridge. I’m constantly looking for an excuse to ride my bike.

Hot Topic: Tuesdays are always spent watching the GCN Show (Global Cycling Network) from the UK. Interestingly in the comments section of the show (near the end of the podcast) they mentioned Ford's banning of bicycle lanes with comments coming from Toronto. We could say that foundation for the Hub Trail started over 20 years ago. This section running from Old Garden River Road and Willow has existed for at least 50 years as a well used short cut for cyclists and pedestrians who wanted to avoid the city’s busiest intersections. In the late 1990s Mike Harris the then premier of Ontario privatized the MTO and this parcel was transferred to the Ontario Realty Corp. which quickly blocked the trail with …

As your host, I invite everyone who has anything 'cycling' to share on this platform. Although the warmer season is coming to an end, cycling doesn't have to cease. Be it fat tire rides in the snow, hours on your indoor trainer, planning next year's rides, finally doing that well needed maintenance on your trusty steed, or dreaming about that new shiny one like you saw out on the road this Summer (maybe in blue, with 32mm tires...sigh), or just …

Last year I had the privilege of travelling in the Netherlands and seeing firsthand what a city that is not dominated by cars and traffic looks and feels like. The Dutch would never want to go back to their previous noisy, polluted and dangerous streets. The reason most people in North America chose to drive as their main mode of travel is because it is engineered to be the most convenient. It’s also the most expensive especially if you factor …

Last night was a very special one for the cycling community. There was a fund raiser for Rob White (AKA Animal), a well known local cycling mechanic, who was badly hurt in a house fire a few weeks ago. The news we received while there was fantastic. Rob is out of ICU and recovering in a standard hospital ward now. We all wish Rob a speedy recovery. Everyone would like to thank Crimson Ridge Golf Course for hosting the event and everyone who …

Hello fellow cycling enthusiasts. I am your Road Specific Cycling Host, David (AKA cycledave). A little information concerning my cycling background. I have been involved in cycling seriously since the mid- 1960’s (ancient times !), that moved to another level in 1972, while attending university in Ottawa. Those years provided a training ground for my competitive cycling and eventual specialisation in time trials against the clock. This is …

I’m another cycling co-host and my main interest is advocacy and utilitarian cycling. I have been on the Sault Cycling Club executive for some 3-4 decades. They just can’t get rid of me. I was a founding member of STAC which advocated for the Hub Trail. Like most people who are in this space, I’m happy when I ride my bike regardless of time, weather or place. I also ride all kinds of bikes including rickshaws, e-assist recumbent trike, fat bike, …
