>>>>>>>The story behind the split window >>>>>>> 1963 marked the debut of the Split Window Corvette. Soon it became apparent the split window created a partial obstructed rear view. But it was not enough to be classified as illegal, nonetheless some owners opted to remove the divider strip and install a one piece glass. The modification provided improved
visibility but the modification lowered the value of those Corvettes that were modified. General Motors then dropped the split window design in the 1964 model. The combination of the radical modification and the redesign of the 1964 model created an insatiable appetite for the remaining unmolested 1963 Corvettes. Fast Forward to the mid Seventies when Frankie Mattalo, a lifelong Corvette enthusiast was fortunate enough to scoop up one of those unmolested 1963 Split Window Corvettes. The attached pic courtesy of 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split Window | Vintage Motorsport is used to illustrate the iconic Split window design of the 1963 Corvette. The lower pics are vintage pics produced with film photography of Frankie's Corvette. Eventually Frankie would sell his Split Window Corvette to purchase his prized possession 1986 Corvette Indianapolis 500 Official Pace Car which he still owns today. Thanks David. In the 60s and 70s those cars were considered daily drivers so it would be normal to hack out the center strip. Doing so nowadays would be just plain crazy. In the 60s and 70s those cars were driven year round even in the winters. I remember one been driven in the steelworks.

Hey Curtis - your comments are spot on of what Queen was like those days. I encourage you to post about your experiences on Queen. I remember Dino’s now that you mentioned this Pizza place. I and others would love to see your comments as a post to enjoy and bring back those memories. Thanks

@Curtis Balint its nice chatting with you. The first time I seen Frankie Mattalo's split window dark candy apple red Corvette was in front of the Algoma theater. I fell in love with that car and the rumble of the exhaust was out of this world. What a magnificent car. To this day the sight and sound of that car is ingrained in my mind. I am glad the mention of Mary Hopkin,s song has put a smile on your face.

@Curtis Balint Yea I lived in Bayview as well and went to St Stans too. We used to gather at Bear's billiards right across from Millies. Some nights there were 20 , 30 cars parked around there, from Demons, Camaros Roadrunners, Cudas you name it they were there. Yes those were the days my Friend!
