THE PLASTINO FAMILY VAN.......... Customozed vans were very popular in the 60s,70s and 80s. Their popularity and customizations flourished in the mid 60s during the height of the unpopular Vietnam War. Colourful paint scenes and of course the iconic and enduring peace symbol that symbolized the opposition to nuclear weapons and war were often displayed on the sides of the vans. The peace symbol was one of the most recognizable symbols ever. Customized vans popularity endured for decades later and in 1989 Armando Plastino purchased his new van. The van was ordered as a bare bones van, in other words just a shell with just the drive train, outer body and a temporary driver's seat. So bare that there was reluctance by Ford dealer to order it. But with Armando's insistance the van was ordered and delivered as requested. Immediately upon delivery Armando took take it to a conversion shop in Flint Michigan to have it customized to his specifications and to suit his young family. For many years the Plastino family would take the van to Florida during the March Breaks. The van was kept in the family for years and it remained there even though its usage decreased. Eventually it was put up for sale and 2016 it was sold to a gentlemen that was dealing with terminal cancer. Even though the Plastino family was reluctant to selling it because of the strong emotional attachment they had with it they were pleased that it went to a couple that would enjoy it while they were dealing with such a terrible disease.
